What should you order in a restaurant in Strasbourg?

There are too many tasty, typical Alsatian dishes to name here. However, a few are truly unmissable. Firstly, you have to try ‘choucroute’, maybe at a classic Alsation ‘winstub’. This has sauerkraut cooked in fat as well as traditional sausages – delicious!

As for salty snacks, don’t miss ‘flammekueche’/‘tarte flambée’, a type of Alsatian pizza, or a fresh pretzel.

However, there are also treats for those with a sweet tooth! If this is you, make sure you get some of the sweet brioche ‘kugelhopf’ or some Alsatian gingerbread.

How much to tip?

Generally, you do not need to leave a tip in restaurants in France. Normally, the waiters are on a living wage and the service charge is already included in the bill. However, if the service is excellent you can definitely leave a few extra Euros on the table!

Are there any Michelin Star Restaurants in Strasbourg?

There are lots of restaurants with Michelin stars in and around Strasbourg. Obviously, this means they are well worth visiting as they have truly excellent food, atmosphere, and service. However, be prepared to spend quite a lot on a meal in one of these places. As well as Buerehiesel that we mentioned above, we would recommend you check out Au Crocodile, de:ja, Umami, and 1741. 1741 and Au Crocodile specialize in amazing dishes inspired by French cooking. Otherwise, get excellent Japanese food at Umami. Finally, there are creative modern dishes at de:ja using lots of plant-based ingredients and processes such as fermentation and extraction.

Just because Strasbourg has so many Michelin-starred restaurants, it does not mean you cannot eat well there on a budget. To start your day, Hey Mama offers wallet-friendly but delicious brunches. Otherwise, good, cheap lunch and dinner options are available at almost every winstub you go to. Finally, choices like La Corde à Linge or Le Grand Tigre above will serve reasonable, crowd-pleasing dishes. These are especially good for families or picky eaters!

Do any restaurants serve brunch?

Hey Mama is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for a healthy, delicious brunch in Strasbourg. It has a central location and a choice of great dishes including lots of vegan options. Moreover, there’s a brunch deal that offers two dishes and two drinks all for under thirty euros!
